Budapest: Uganda’s Victor Kiplangat wins gold in the men’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships. Victor finished in two hours 08 minutes 53 seconds. Israel’s Maru Teaferi took the silver in two hours 09 minutes 12 seconds. Ethiopia’s Liul Gebrisalasi won the bronze. Gebrisalassi finished in 2 hours 09 minutes 19 seconds.

It is the first time since 2013 that a Ugandan has won the marathon gold. Stephen Kiprotichan won the marathon gold ten years ago.

Victor Kiplangat also won gold in the Commonwealth Games. Ten kilometers were shortened in the marathon due to extreme heat. Defending champion Tamirat Tola might not finish the match.
