This municipality is experiencing one of its worst emergencies after the heavy rains of recent days. More than 320 families are affected and many of them lost all their property due to the floods.
The flooding of streams such as Las Mercedes and Caño Conejo overflowed their channels and devastated homes and crops, leaving many communities in a critical situation. The most affected took immediate measures to prevent further damage, such as evacuating the most vulnerable areas.
Residents worked alongside local authorities to set up temporary shelters and offer support to the most vulnerable people.
Aid arrives, but it is not enough
In the last hours, local authorities provided first aid to the affected families. Beds, food and other basic elements are being distributed in sectors such as the town of Las Mercedes and the Cocorná station.
However, those affected emphasize that this initial aid is insufficient compared to the losses they have suffered. Many families were left homeless and are completely dependent on government assistance to begin recovery.
“We need your help. Puerto Triunfo is making a very special call to the Departmental Government and the National Government so that these families can recover all the assets they have lost,” commented the mayor of Puerto Triunfo, Franklin Portillo.
