Protesters condemning the killing of a black man shot dead by police on July 13 confronted the man’s victim during a demonstration over the weekend.
Andrew “Tekle” Sundberg, 20, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was apparently going through a mental health crisis when he started pounding on the door of his neighbor, 24-year-old Arabella Foss-Yarbrough’s apartment.
Sundberg was shot by two police snipers following a six-hour standoff, forcing Black Lives Matter protesters to arrive at the scene and protest another police killing – but Foss-Yarbrough has it seen differently.
The victim of Andrew “Tekle” Sundberg confronted protesters in Minneapolis, blaming them for defending the shooter.
On Saturday, protesters at the scene of the shooting were shouted at by Foss-Yarbrough, who told them, “This is not a George Floyd situation. George Floyd was unarmed. It’s not good.
The mother-of-two was cooking at home on Wednesday evening when Sundberg opened fire on her apartment, causing bullet holes in the apartment and wreaking havoc on its walls and bathroom.
Fortunately, her children were not physically harmed in the attack, but Foss-Yarbrough is worried regarding the implications the incident might have on their mental health.
She posted the followingmath of the bullets that ripped through her apartment on Facebook, showing shattered glass all over her bathroom counter and a chewed up front door.
“My children have to deal with this and probably have mental illness now because they almost lost their lives,” she shouted at protesters. “There are bullet holes in my kitchen because he was sitting in the fucking hallway watching my movements. »
Some protesters fought back and defended Sundberg, shouting at her that this was neither the time nor the place for her to react in this way – some even telling her to “shut up”.
Foss-Yarbrough claimed protesters didn’t really care regarding the man and his sanity, saying “none of you knocked on this man’s door to check on his condition.”
“He tried to kill me in front of my children,” she continued. “I have black children; I am a woman of color! If I had lost my life, would you do this for me? »
The protesters replied that they would, but she didn’t care.
The shooter’s father, Mark Sundberg, was actually among the protesters and apologized for his son’s actions.
“I’m so sorry,” he told her. After she said it wasn’t okay, he repeated, “No, it’s not, and I’m so sorry this happened.” »
“My heart goes out to this (Yarbrough) woman,” Mark told FOX9 News. “She experienced a very traumatic event with these bullets going through her house”
While they expressed remorse for what Foss-Yarbrough went through, they also felt that their son should not have been killed and should have been treated as a mental health crisis.
“These are two different incidents. It’s the shots going through it (the wall) and the reason we’re here, when Tekle was shot,” Mark said.
“I literally had five minutes to live when he had six hours to choose life or death. The police said they didn’t want to kill him,” Yarbrough said.
Separate GoFundMe pages were created for both parties and both raised tens of thousands of dollars.
Protesters are demanding the Minneapolis Police Department do better, but are also expressing sympathy for Foss-Yarbrough, who doesn’t believe the shooter is worthy of their defense.
