The Reserach Lab for Sustainable Building and Cultural Heritage organized the music academy with the Art in Dialogue association in cooperation with the cities of Accumoli and Norcia

Krems (OTS) In order to promote the holistic reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged city of Accumoli, the award-winning orchestra academy “Accademia Vicino di Accumoli” was again organized in 2023 by the Research Lab for Sustainable Building Cultural Heritage at the University of Krems with the Art in Dialogue association and local partners. In addition to the focus on the further development of young musical talent, concerts and events provided the opportunity to promote the region’s growing together.

The Accademia Vicino di Accumoli is an innovative project for the holistic reconstruction of the town of Accumoli, which was destroyed by the earthquake. It brings together young musical talents in the Italian Apennines to gain in-depth musical experiences over two weeks in the summer. Reconstruction involves more than just renewing structural structures. The cultural, social and religious life in Accumoli must also be reconstructed, also in order to create economic impulses for the region. Last year, the project was recognized by the Federal Chancellery with the European State Prize in the art and culture category. The music academy is run by the Research Lab for Sustainable Building and Cultural Heritage of the University of Krems and the Art in Dialogue association in cooperation with the city of Accumoli, the city of Norcia, the Corpo bandastico di Accumoli, with Pro Loco di Accumoli, with Radici Accumolesi and other local partners organized.

Diverse concert program

Academy participants were offered a multimodal program that focuses on three main subjects: intensive orchestral playing and chamber music training as well as individual lessons and seminars on practical music topics. From August 17th to 24th, 2023, a program with chamber music works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert was developed under the artistic direction of Maestro Johannes Wildner and presented to the public as part of public events in Accumoli and Norcia. These included evenings with chamber music, musical activities with the Corpo bandastico, a memorial concert, a public lecture and performance on the art of quartet playing in the Viennese classical period, as well as a public discussion on the reconstruction process with political leaders. Furthermore, a public discussion took place with Guido Castelli, the government’s extraordinary commissioner for the reconstruction of the 2016 earthquake, Franca D’Angeli, the mayor of Accumoli and other local responsible organizational representatives. The project is scientifically supported in terms of its relevance to the reconstruction process.
