Vice-President visits Angolan Cancer Control Institute – news

The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, visited the Angolan Institute of Cancer Control (IACC) this Saturday morning to find out regarding its functioning and the changes that have taken place in the institution in recent years. .

Accompanied by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, by the Ministers of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion, Ana Paula do Sacramento, and by the Governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, Esperança da Costa visited the different areas of that specialized health unit.

The IACC has 80 trained oncology specialists (33 physicians and 47 non-medical professionals).

Meanwhile, more than 30 professionals are undergoing training, within the scope of agreements signed with similar institutions in Brazil, Portugal and Spain.

According to official data, cancer kills more people worldwide than HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

In Angola, until October of this year, a total of 1076 cases of cancer were registered, including 99 children.

The most common types of cancer are breast and cervical cancer among the female population. As for the male population, prostate, lung and bowel cancer stand out.
