Vice President Abab denounces Noboa for political gender violence

The vice president of Ecuador, Verónica Abad, filed a complaint for political gender violence before the Contentious Electoral Court of the South American country against the head of state, Daniel Noboa.

The complaint, also addressed to Chancellor Gabriela Sommerfeld, Vice Minister Esteban Torres and advisor Diana Jácome, was filed last Thursday, according to local media.

Ecuavisa confirmed that last week, during his appearance before the occasional legislative commission for the investigation of irregularities against the public administration, Abad warned that he would take this action. “My action on this issue will be very clear in the coming days, and I hope it has the due support of a conscious people,” he said.

Political gender violence is considered a very serious electoral infraction, according to the Code of Democracy, and can be punished with a monetary fine, dismissal and/or suspension of participation rights for two to four years, he noted.

Last Thursday, Noboa arranged for Abad’s transfer to Turkey due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, which compromise the security of residents in Israel.

The surprising sending as ambassador to Israel at the end of 2023 showed Noboa’s distancing, from the campaign to the second round, a break for which Abad commented that he cannot find an explanation.

“It’s something that we still ask ourselves. “The president has not been able to say, first of all, why the hatred towards his vice president,” said Abad, who said she felt “exiled” and who denounced “hostile” treatment by Noboa to allegedly pressure her to resign.
