An agreement has been reached between the National Rugby League and the French Rugby Federation. They signed the amendment to the agreement concerning the provision of internationals by clubs. Fabien Galthié will only be able to count on 34 players instead of the 42 planned so far.
The news appeared yesterday in the media, less than a month before the Blues’ entry into competition in the VI Nations Tournament. The subject has been on everyone’s minds since the defeat in the quarter-finals of the World Cup once morest South Africa (28-29). The agreement was presented to the managers of the Top 14 then validated by the LNR steering committee. It is now the turn of the FFR to definitively validate this agreement. The opinion will be delivered at the beginning of next week.
Unlike his first mandate, Fabien Galthié will only have 34 players to prepare for the Tournament matches. On Wednesday evening, 28 players will be kept at the National Rugby Center in Marcoussis, and 6 will be released to the club. The same evening, 6 new players will join the France group and leave the next day. The coach of the XV of France will draw these elements from clubs other than the four biggest suppliers of the group.
In addition, Fabien Galthié will only be able to choose one player per club. The amendment to the agreement nevertheless specifies: “ As far as possible, the FFR will endeavor to organize a rotation between the players requested for the three Thursdays. »
New conventions by 2027

New agreements will be negotiated for the 2024 autumn tour and the 2025 and 2026 Tournaments. Finally, before the 2027 World Cup in Australia, final discussions will take place between the clubs, the league and the federation.
Resumption of service for “France Développement”
It will take two additional “France Développement” matches. The last one dates back to 2017 and the defeat of the Blues once morest the All Blacks in Lyon.
The players will be selected from the 10 teams who have not reached the semi-finals of the Top 14. This squad will first meet the British Barbarians at the same time as the semi-finals of the championship, on June 22. Between the two matches once morest the Pumas, a second meeting will be organized once morest Chile or Uruguay.
