Coach Javier Clemente is a big name in the military world, having led the Spain team from 1992 to 1998 with a record of 31 consecutive unbeaten matches. At the team level, Mr. Clemente also served as the head coach of Libya at the 2021 Gulf Cup and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The career of the 71-year-old strategist is best known for winning 2 La Liga titles, 1 King’s Cup, 1 Spanish Super Cup with Athletic Bilbao. He won the title of the best coach in La Liga for 3 seasons.
Most recently, many information said that VFF has contacted coach Philippe Troussier. The French strategist is no longer a stranger to Vietnamese football fans, having held the role of head coach of the U18 team as well as U19 Vietnam.
Although there are many strong candidates, VFF has not made a specific decision at this point, because it is in the process of screening to finalize a list of regarding 2-3 most suitable names before contract negotiations.
VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu said: “We are currently gathering candidates to apply for the position of head coach of the Vietnam team. After that, VFF will transfer the files to the National Coaches Council. The VFF Standing Committee will then approach a number of candidates to negotiate and find the right person for Vietnamese football.”
Regarding financial matters, Mr. Tran Anh Tu shared: “Finding a new coach for the Vietnamese team is not easy. The new coach must be suitable for Vietnamese culture, players and VFF’s financial situation.
With the current financial capacity of VFF, I believe we can afford to shoulder the costs for the goals of Vietnamese football. Of course we have to spend, calculate, whether rice picks up fish sauce.”
