Vetoulas on Marousi-Apollon: “I knew that this would happen at some point”

Marousi beat Apollon 99-73 for the 19th game of the Basket League and Amarousi’s coach, Nikos Vetoulas, was hosted on EOK WebRadio’s “Live Replay” show with Menelaos Sevastiadis and Spyros Kavalieratos. He said in detail:

On the victory over Apollon: “We expected a nervous game, at least at the beginning, because of the importance of the game. I think we had more solutions like a roster and over time it would have been in our favor. We started relatively well, at the end of the first quarter and in the second quarter we were careless with many mistakes especially in the attacking part. We stayed focused on the defensive part and were accurate on three-pointers. The game as time passed was in our favor.”

On facing his longtime team, Apollo: “There is no person who has been through so much that doesn’t think regarding it. I think it’s human. From then on, it bothered me more before I made the decision. It was the part before I went. From the moment I decided to accept the offer and go, I knew that at some point this would also happen.”

On whether Maroussi plays what he wants: “It is clear that Maroussi is a naturally attacking team. He has guys who have talent, quality, they have experience from big leagues, this is credited to the characteristics of the players. From then on, we tried to be more consistent in the defensive part, to hide some weaknesses that definitely exist. In the second half, I think we did quite well.”

About the championship and the 3rd round: “This is something unknown, since it is the first time it has been done. It certainly makes it more interesting, in the final stage whether in play-in or play-out, all teams are competitive. It gives the teams the possibility to cover some potential losses”.

On the experienced and young players in the squad: “Radulica is a EuroLeague quality player, with the positives and not in athletic condition over the years. But he is a child who at this level can make a difference. The good thing is that guys like Nikolaidis and Stasinos can replace in some games and in the defensive part for sure, but also in the offensive part and other players who are not in good condition”.

About Maroussi: “It is a team that is organized within the framework of a team that wants to star, a team that has a vision and a plan. Certainly there is the scouting department, but also many others who “run”. As time goes by, at least at the non-competitive level, the team will grow.”
