The official launch of the program took place yesterday at the Ciudadela del Saber La Santa María campus, with the participation of authorities from the department.

This Tuesday was the official launch of the Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics program of the Universidad La Gran Colombia Armeniaa new professional training option in Quindío, which, according to the undergraduate coordinator, Catherine Guerrero Noguera, will provide solutions to the problems of the environment, focused on agricultural development, pet management, responsible ownership, but Additionally, it will be focused on an issue that is becoming relevant in the region, which is the protection of biodiversity and wildlife.
“An important aspect was detected in the department and it has to do with the part of wildlife, because, despite the fact that it is a very small region, it has great biodiversity and even more so now that a lot of work is being done on the issue of protection. of the fauna and we are fighting once morest something complicated, which is the illegal trafficking of wildlife and this is a job in which the zootechnician veterinary doctor of the UGCA will be very involved in the future”, assured Guerrero Noguera.
The program is designed so that students have internships from the first semester. “This is going to help us guarantee that graduates have a high component at a practical level for handling animals, both for work on the farm and in wildlife, which is going to give them strength when they start working. either as independents, with companies in the agricultural sector or with entities, for example, of the State”.
Contribution to the agricultural sector
The coordinator assured that the program contributes to the agricultural sector, thinking of the world trend that is one health, that integrates all the part that has to do with animal and human health and the protection of the environment.
“Let’s say that the profile seeks to be a comprehensive professional, who is not only focused on one issue, only animals, but manages the entire environment and, additionally, public health,” he stressed.

Enrollment to study Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at Universidad La Gran Colombia is now open.
“Whoever wishes, through the institution’s website, can carry out the process and right there they can upload the necessary documents to register. The program begins the first week of August this year, so whoever is interested is in time to enroll.”, affirmed Guerrero Noguera.
Regarding postgraduate courses, he reported: “I would like to highlight the agreement we have with Universidad Ces de Medellín, where our students will be able to have an option, either to start a master’s degree or a specialization there, which will serve as a degree option here. and that additionally allows them to continue with the study that this agreement allows”.
The quota for the first semester is 40 students.
Educational quality
The coordinator of the academic program said that it will not take place in a closed environment or in the city, but at the Campus Ciudadela del Saber La Santa María. “There we have our own facilities and infrastructure for a veterinary medicine and zootechnics program, because we are going to have pens and animals with which the students will be able to carry out practices; we have very well equipped laboratories and facilities, for example, rooms with all the elements of technology”.
Likewise, regarding the profile of teachers, he assured that the university always seeks people with a profile that is highly focused on each of the subjects. “The university stands out for its high-quality programs and we want, from the beginning, to reach that high quality, so the professors have extensive experience in the field, in the academic sector, they have studies such as specializations, master’s degrees and even doctorates. . Let’s just say we’re making a very big bet on a high-quality program.”
