Netflix love nostalgia! The American streaming platform will soon offer its many subscribers a series derived from the very cult That ’70s Show which made the great hours of FOX, across the Atlantic, between 1998 and 2006. In total, the fiction will have lasted over 8 seasons and will have generated more than 200 episodes. After a first spin-off, named That ’80s Show, released in 2002, it is therefore a new project that will see the light of day. In effect, Netflix currently developing That ’90s Show, a direct sequel to the first two series which will take place – you have understood it – in the 1990s, and more precisely in 1995. Bonnie and Terry Turner, two of the original co-creators of the parent series, are back to imagine and bring this fan-awaited sequel to life. Screenwriter Gregg Mettler, already a producer on That ’70s Show will also be in charge. And that’s not all since many surprises are already waiting for the spectators of That ’90s Show…
An original cast back to the delight of fans!
A few weeks ago, Netflix had already announced the return of the actors Kurtwood Smith et Debra Jo Rupp. Both will obviously resume their respective roles, namely Red and Kitty, the parents of Eric, the hero of the original series. They will be the two main actors of this new project (a first official photo can be found below). But that’s not all, since Variety now announces very good news… Indeed, the actors Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis et Wilmer Valderrama will all play, once once more, their respective characters from That ’70s Show in the future That ’90s Show. They should make small appearances there, just to amuse fans of the parent series. The new actors will be added to this: Ashley Aufderheide (seen in Emergence et Preacher), Callie Haverda (Shut Eye), Mace Coronel (Wireless), Maxwell Acee Donovan (The Thundermans), Reyn Doi (Kidding) and Sam Morelos (Extraordinary Night).
An actor will nevertheless be missing
The only main cast member who won’t be returning is Danny Mastersonwho played Hyde. Several women accused him in March 2017 of sexual assault. An investigation was subsequently opened, but Danny Materson pleaded not guilty several times. After various comings and goings in court, the criminal trial has been set for next August. In the meantime, following these accusations, Netflix previously stripped him of his role on the show The Ranch.
