The MP also noted, in the municipal regulations relating to burials, a whole series of taxes which he himself describes as “strange”. “For example, in Forest, when you want a burial to take place on Friday followingnoon, there is a surcharge of 1,000 euros. Which is completely disproportionate. We must be at the service of the citizen and therefore allow that normal hours, that is to say until at least 5 p.m., are respected.
In Anderlecht, you have a tax on transport with hearse which is 200 euros. But this tax is increased by 50% if the family of the deceased wishes to place a plume on the hearse. A plume is this little ornament, made of ostrich feathers. Well there you are, you have to pay 50% more, it’s incomprehensible, really incomprehensible.”
Ahmed Mouhssin is also asking for at least harmonization between municipalities, or even the elimination of all these particular surcharges. The MP will once more question Brussels Minister Bernard Clerfayt, in charge of local authorities, in the coming weeks on this subject. He had already made a similar request to the minister two years ago, but which has remained without effect until now.
