Thank you! it all started during our collaborations with George and Oak, this amazing artistic duo. While performing some of their quirky arrangements of classic Latvian songs, we realized there was a magic in blending these timeless melodies with a contemporary sound. We felt “World” deserved a fresh take, especially given its powerful message which resonates even more strongly today.
You mentioned the song’s message. Can you elaborate on why it feels particularly relevant now?
“At the moment, the world is changing hypertail and somehow be able to get along with it …”
The lyrics by Leon Brie and the lovely melody by Raimonds Pauls speak to the global human experience of navigating moments of uncertainty and change. It’s a song about resilience, finding hope amidst challenges, and ultimately, the enduring power of connection and community. In today’s world, those themes feel more importent than ever.
And to bring this concept to life, You’ve also created an incredible music video.Tell us about the inspiration behind it.
We were inspired by several sources, including the Latvian film “Criminal Excellence Foundation,” and also the stylish and sometimes darkly humorous approach of Quentin Tarantino and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. We wanted to create a story that felt both authentically latvian and genuinely captivating, with a touch of mystery and intrigue.
The music video is a sharp thriller, set in the golden age of Latvian underground markets. Could you walk us through its narrative?
imagine a world of forbidden goods – Czechoslovakian “made for the masses” boots, dazzling gemstones carefully smuggled in from eastern Bloc countries, traded for Latvia’s national currency “Gorsldar.” Our video follows a very shaddy wise-guy operating in this world, navigating the dangers and temptations of this forbidden trade.
George, what message do you hope listeners connect with after hearing this song and watching the video?
First and foremost, we want people to feel the energy and passion in this music. We want them to remember the enduring power of Latvian music and see it through a fresh, vibrant lens.
secondly, we hope they engage with the deeper themes: the resilience of the human spirit, finding beauty and joy even in the midst of uncertainty, and the enduring power of connection in a changing world.
