Verstappen wins again and wins the Hungarian F1 GP, followed by Lando Norris and Checo Pérez

2023-07-23 15:08:40

Max Verstappen cruised to victory over Lando Norris and Sergio Pérez with another dominant performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix, giving the reigning two-time world champion its seventh successive win and Red Bull its 12th successive, surpassing McLaren’s long-standing record.

Verstappen overtook his Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton, who took pole position at the start before moving into the lead and pulling away from the chasing pack with aplomb, scoring a stoplight-to-flag victory that puts the further gap between him and teammate Perez in the drivers’ standings.

It means Red Bull continues its 100% winning streak for the 2023 season, while also setting an all-new milestone in terms of successive race wins, with its staggering tally now one above the 11 McLaren achieved with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost during the 1988 campaign.

Verstappen took the checkered flag comfortably ahead of Norris, who fell behind McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri but regained the place in the first round of pit stops, while Perez, one of only two drivers, along with George Russell, to go long on the first stage on hard tyres, moved up from ninth to third with another strong recovery.
