The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), triple world champion and leader of the Formula One World Championship, declared that he had “bad luck in Melbourne” – where he abandoned, due to a brake problem, in the second lap -, but that , with a view to the Japanese Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend in Suzuka, his team “is optimistic” and that he is “ready to fight for victory.”
“Suzuka is always a great circuit to race at. As a team we have many special memories of this circuit over the years, such as winning the constructors’ title last year or when we celebrated (in the same way, mathematically, at that time) my second drivers’ World Championship, here too.” commented Verstappen, 26 years old, with 56 victories and one hundred podiums in Formula One.
“It was good to have had a short break to be with family and friends before the race; and it was also fun to spend some time in Tokyo. The last race, in Melbourne, was unfortunate; and these things happen. However, we managed to string together nine victories, something that is impressive; so we hope to come back even stronger this weekend,” commented ‘Mad Max’, who before leaving Albert Park in the capital of Victoria had won the first two races of the year, in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
“The team is optimistic ahead of Suzuka; It is an iconic circuit and one that is fun to drive on,” explained the Dutch sports super-predator.
“The track has a lot of high-speed corners and high (tire) degradation and we need to make sure we optimize our staging where we can, especially with the rain forecast this weekend,” warned ‘Mad Max’.
“I already want to get back in the car; and I am ready to fight for victory this weekend,” declared Verstappen with a view to the Japanese Grand Prix.
