The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), triple world champion and leader of the Formula One World Championship, who set the best time on the day of free practice for the Japanese Grand Prix, the fourth of the year, declared this Friday at the circuit from Suzuka that “it was a good start” and that “it was a shame” to have lost the second session due to the rain; But he stressed that “nothing can be done, with time.”

“It was a good start for us today. The bounce wasn’t too big and I felt comfortable in the car. There are still things to try and take a look at, but in general terms, it was a good first training session,” explained Verstappen, 26, who, following winning the first two races, in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, abandoned in Australia – because of a brake problem – and now leads the World Championship with 51 points, four more than the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).

“Of course it was a shame not to have been able to do anything in the second free practice, because we still don’t know the pace in long runs. But there is nothing we can do as far as time is concerned,” said ‘Mad Max’, 56 times victorious in F1, in which he has one hundred podiums.

“Overall, it seems like everyone is closer compared to last year; and I don’t expect the same type of differences on this track,” said the Dutch super-predator following the day of practice that took place at the circuit owned by Honda, the motorcyclist of his team. “There are still a number of things which we want to take a look at tomorrow, but in general terms I feel quite happy with what we had in the laps we did. Suzuka is usually a good track for the team, so we are optimistic going into the weekend.”, Verstappen explained this Friday in Japan, where he won last year and the year before.
