Verstappen exited his car and continued the rest of the qualifying session, as he continued to see that his rivals, even in their second fast laps, might not outpace him, while retaining the fastest time, 0.632s ahead of Sainz, who secured pole following Verstappen’s penalty.

Sergio Perez was content with setting the third-fastest time in qualifying for Red Bull, while Charles Leclerc finished fourth for Ferrari, who made a fatal strategic error at the start of Q3 with a new set of soft tires for the race.
In this qualifying session, Leclerc outperformed the Alpine duo, who will see Fernando Alonso start from third following penalties, just behind Sainz and Perez, and Alonso beat the Mercedes pair.
