Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team made a fuel miscalculation in Q3 that prevented them from completing the final run and dropped to eighth. The Dutch driver is very frustrated with what has happened and assures that it should not happen again.
A mistake that cannot be repeated
Max Verstappen arrived in Singapore with high hopes after having here his first chance to be champion. Also, the pace he showed from him was good and he positioned himself as one of the favorites to take pole.
Nothing could be further from reality, a calculation error when adding fuel to the car caused him to be unable to complete his last attempt in Q3 and ended up falling to eighth starting position. An error that Max considers as unrepeatable.
“I had already felt it on the previous lap, but then they asked me to abort the lap so I thought we could do one last try. But then they called me to box and I understood what was happening. We ran out of fuel”Verstappen declared to the microphones of Sky Sports at the end of the classification.
“It’s incredibly frustrating and shouldn’t happen.. Even when you underfuel the car or don’t plan on doing those six laps, at least you check that during the session beforehand so you know you’re not going to make it. We should have seen it before”continues Max.
In the event that Verstappen had completed the lap and run out of fuel, the Dutch driver would have faced a disqualification penalty and had to start from the back of the grid.
“I am not happy at all at the moment, I know that of course it is a great effort from the team and that I can also make mistakes, and the team can commit them, but it is never acceptable. Of course we will learn from it, but it is very bad. shouldn’t happen”assures the Dutch pilot.
Can Verstappen come back?
The race for Max has turned uphill, since Singapore is not a particularly easy circuit to overtake. Even so, the #1 assures that he will give everything to recover the lost positions.
“It will be a bit like Monaco, it’s very difficult to overtake here and maybe you can do it a little bit with the strategybut right now I’m not thinking about tomorrow’s race”assures the world champion.
“As soon as I jump in the car, I will always do my bestbut right now I’m super frustrated with what’s happened.”says the Red Bull driver.
“I will go back to the hotel and think about other things”concludes Max Verstappen.
