The tranquility of rue du Petit Lannoy was disturbed this Monday, at the start of the evening, by the passage of several ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles from the Val d’Escaut area.
All these vehicles converged on the house located at number 8, where Christian and Véronique live. Alas!, the SMUR doctor might only confirm the death of the resident of the premises, a lady in her fifties.
Apparently her husband called the emergency services. To people who were there shortly following the incident, he confided“to have done a big mistake”.
The two ambulances sent to the scene left shortly following, with no one on board except the paramedics. Quite quickly, a police cordon was set up around the house and the vehicle of the occupants.
The circumstances of the tragedy are unknown. The first elements of the investigation designate the victim’s companion, also in his fifties, as the perpetrator. “The chronology of the facts might not yet be established with precision. The alleged perpetrator, who lived with the victim, was deprived of his liberty. He will be heard this Tuesday by the investigating judge in charge of the case, ”said the King’s prosecutor of the Tournai division, Eric Delhaye.
An autopsy of the body will be performed around 4 p.m. Tuesday, he added.
