A Vermont State Police officer did not hesitate to jump into the water to rescue an 8-year-old girl who had ventured onto a frozen pond before the ice gave way under her feet.
The incident occurred on December 17 in the town of Cambridge when two children found themselves in the water, reports CNN.
After one of them was pulled from the freezing water, the owner of a home near the waterhole called 911.
Footage from police officer Michelle Archer’s body camera shows her rushing into the pond to help the 8-year-old girl there.
“It was like a rush of adrenaline before even arriving at the scene,” explains the police officer. You know you have to get there as soon as possible.”
“I don’t know if it’s my training or something else, but panic was definitely not on my mind at the time,” she adds.
She was able to get her out of the water alive.
“I don’t consider myself a heroine,” she said. I was just the first person to arrive there. There was a job to do and I was there to do it.”
The young girl was transported to a hospital, where she was eventually released from the hospital.
