Verena Fink: More courage to wear a hat – steiermark.ORF.at

“Bring together”, “put on the hat” or “take the hat” – there are countless proverbs regarding this headgear – hat wearers unfortunately rather few. A circumstance that the Graz milliner Verena Fink wants to change as soon as possible.

“You just look different when you wear a hat. It takes a bit of courage because you have the feeling that the other people on the street are watching you. But that’s not the case at all,” says Verena Fink.

The hat from the oven

The Styrian commutes between the kitchen and living room – this is where the hat pillar is located, on which everything begins and the hat is formed. While it’s still wet, it has to go back to the kitchen for the next step, and so it goes back and forth for hours, whereby the woman from Graz works very sustainably when it comes to utensils: “I can use everything from my kitchen: pan, glass, oven,” laughs Fink .

Well formed – and baked

Incidentally, there is more often a hat in the oven than a cake. Since the milliner from Graz has been letting her imagination run free every day since she discovered the milliner’s craft, preferably with vintage materials: “I was always looking for something that fulfills me. By chance I discovered the milliner training on the internet and since then I’ve been hooked!”

That certain something

Whether hat or headband – each piece is unique, which – once a woman has decided on a piece – gives every hat wearer that certain something. Of course, the same also applies to the gentlemen, who literally rely on umbrellas, charm and bowler hats.

Fink with her cleverly fixed fascinator

What is known as a fascinator looks particularly elegant – but how does it stay so slanted on the head? “It’s attached to a headband,” reveals the expert. Whether conspicuous or simple – for the Graz native, the hat is more than just a protective accessory: “I believe that a hat changes attitude: you become taller. And maybe go through life a little more courageously!”
