The verdict of the Council of the order of the lawyers fell. Me Ousseynou Fall, member of the pool of defenders of Ousmane Sonko during his trial against Mame Mbaye Niang, received a one-year ban on practicing his profession. The sentence is suspended. On the other hand, he was condemned to five years firm of ineligibility with the elections of Bâtonnier or member of the Council of the Order.

Liberation, which provides the information, specifies that Me Ousseynou Fall was tried by his peers on Wednesday. The good news therefore for him: “(he) will resume service”, announces the newspaper after nearly two months of suspension. The bad: he will not be President or member of the Council of the Order for the next five years.

Me Ousseynou Fall had been provisionally suspended for having accused Pape Mohamed Diop, first judge of the Sonko-Mame Mbaye Niang trial, of committing forfeiture. It was on March 16, during the third hearing.

The judge had lodged a complaint against the lawyer before the Bar Council before dismissing the case. He will withdraw before the fourth hearing. His colleague Mamadou Yakham Keïta will take over and sentence the president of Pastef to a two-month suspended sentence and to pay the civil party 200 million CFA francs in damages.

The case will later be judged on appeal and the mayor of Ziguinchor received a six-month suspended sentence. The amount to be paid to cover damages will be maintained.

Because of the incident which had pitted him against Judge Diop, Me Ousseynou Fall was dismissed for the rest of the trial. He can now return to service.
