The union ver.di started warning strikes in the public sector in the morning. Day care centers, garbage disposal and local transport are among those affected. Rallies are taking place in several cities.
“We’re traveling all over the country once more,” ver.di said in advance. One focus of the campaigns this time is in the city and region of Hanover. The first effects were evident in the state capital in the morning during rush hour. Display boards at the stops of the Hanoverian public transport company Üstra pointed out that there were no buses and trains due to the warning strike. There are also warning strikes in municipal facilities and companies in Braunschweig, Lüneburg, Verden, Meppen and Emden as well as in the districts of Celle, Hameln-Pyrmont, Hildesheim and Leer.
ver.di expects thousands of strikers in Lower Saxony
The union expects a four-digit number of participants. Ver.di justifies its call for an all-day warning strike with the fact that the employer side has not yet submitted an offer. Around 240,000 people work in the public sector in Lower Saxony.
