Veolia: the British CMA demands three disposals – 08/25/2022 at 09:50

(CercleFinance.com) – The British competition authority announced on Thursday that it had asked Veolia to sell three activities following the conclusion of its in-depth investigation into the proposed merger with Suez.

In its opinion, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) indicates that these concessions concern Suez’s waste treatment activities in Great Britain, as well as the company’s industrial water services.

On the Veolia side, the CMA says it is demanding the sale of mobile water treatment services in Europe from the world leader in environmental services.

“These businesses represent almost all of the overlap between the competing activities of Veolia and Suez in the United Kingdom,” explains the competition authority.

In its press release, the CMA notes that Veolia has already undertaken to sell Suez’s waste treatment activities in the country.

She recalls that the competition authorities of the European Union and Australia have also demanded concessions from the two groups as part of the merger project.

Following these announcements, the Veolia title posted a gain of 0.2% Thursday morning on the Paris Stock Exchange. The stock has fallen more than 29% since the start of the year.
