Ventspils Ogre is the first to reach the LBL final / Diena

“Ventspils” celebrated the victory over “Ogri” away from home with 93:79 (27:24, 24:17, 25:14, 17:24), celebrating the success with 3-1 in the series up to three victories.

For the winners, Ivan Gandija-Rosa collected 22 points and six assists, Artūrs Ausējs scored 14 points, Emmanuel Wemby collected 11 points and nine rebounds, and Kristaps Medis scored ten points.

Kristaps Dargais collected 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the home team. William Thelton scored 13 points and had eight assists.

Ventspilnieki started the game with a 13-3 breakthrough, during which time they made four long shots, half of which were sent to the basket by Aušės.

After Darga’s two-point shot, the Ogrenians managed to get closer to 17:19, but in the 11th minute, following his hook shot, they managed to reach 26:27. However, the home team was not destined to equalize the score, and they will fight for the bronze medals.

In the first match, Ogres won 79:76, while Ventspils won the next two duels (91:76 and 94:81).

“Ventspils” was the second best domestic team in the Latvian-Estonian league and was free from the first round of the LBL elimination tournament, while “Ogres” basketball players beat the “Valmiera Glass” Augstskola” team 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

In the United League, both teams celebrated away victories. In Ogre, the match ended with 94:88 in favor of Ventspils, but in Ventspils, Ogres won the game with 79:78.

In the semifinals, the paths of the two teams crossed once more last year, when Ventspils won 3-2.

In the second semi-final, the capital’s teams “VEF Riga” and “Liepāja” meet, where following three duels the result is 2-1 in favor of the people of Liepāja.

Last year, the basketball players of “VEF Riga” were crowned LBL champions, who beat “Ventspili” 4-1 in the final series, while “Ogre” won the bronze award.
