This measure, which will be applied during the 30 busiest days of the year to all tourists aged 14 and over, aims to improve cohabitation between residents and visitors, reports Archyde.com.
Venice does not expect to make a profit from the fee, which should yield just enough to cover the costs of its deployment.
The exact dates of its establishment are not yet known, as is the way in which visitors will have to pay these fees.
The high number of tourists constitutes a danger for the fragile municipality.
In July, UNESCO recommended that Venice be added to the list of World Heritage in Danger, saying the city would not do enough to protect itself.
