Venice, 26-Year-Old Defends Woman During Robbery, Stabbed to Death –

A 26-year-old boy died last night in Mestre while trying to defend a woman from a robbery. Giacomo Gobbato, this is his name, lost his life in Corso del Popolo around 11pm last night, stabbed by a robber, who was immediately stopped by the police. The Rivolta social center confirmed the news: “This night two of our comrades were stabbed while defending a woman who was being robbed. One was seriously injured and one lost his life – reads a post from the social center – this is a time of pain for us. Too much pain, a pain that takes away words. The mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro attended this morning a coordination meeting urgently called at the prefecture together with all the police forces after what happened. “On behalf of myself and the entire city, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Giacomo Gobbato, who lost his life last night generously trying to foil a robbery. This is the moment of mourning and pain. There are no words – declared the mayor Brugnaro, at the end of the meeting – maximum confidence in the police forces and the investigators, who have already arrested the alleged perpetrator and are conducting the investigations to reconstruct the facts. There will be time to express my bitterness and my convictions”.
