The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, said on Monday on his television program that Venezuela is also on its way to leaving the dollar independent.

“Venezuela is inserting itself into the world’s de-dollarization initiative,” he said in Con Maduro+ when applauding Zimbabwe’s decision to launch a gold-backed cryptocurrency.

“It would be good to study these initiatives that are emerging in the world and are setting guidelines, are adding actions in the process of inevitable de-dollarization of the world,” he emphasized.

He also told the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, who also holds the title of the Ministry for Economy and Finance to analyze this possibility well.

“We welcome this initiative that is adding to the necessary process of de-dollarization of world trade,” he insisted.

He pointed out that the world must be more multipolar, pluricentric and that “advancing towards equilibrium, a basket of currencies will appear for financial operation.”

He explained that the de-dollarization initiatives are erected in response to the political use of the dollar by the United States government, a nation that uses the currency as a method to illegally sanction sovereign countries.

“The world reaches a point where it gets tired. In addition, new economic powers are emerging, perhaps this initiative from Zimbabwe -which we welcome- goes in that direction. They are initiatives that are adding to a fair process of de-dollarization ”, he closed.
