Venezuelans will protest on Saturday in more than 300 cities around the world

Maria Corina Machado said Thursday that Venezuelans in more than 300 cities around the world will join the protest called by the opposition on Saturday to defend the victory that – she insists – Edmundo González Urrutia obtained in the presidential elections on July 28.

August 17 will be “a great day,” Machado predicts. In a video posted on social media, he said that the majority opposition has received “confirmation that Venezuelans will come out in more than 300 cities around the world, accompanied by citizens from all over the world.”

“And here in Venezuela there will be dozens of cities where we will meet and embrace each other, so that the world can see the strength we have, so that the regime is clear that they will not stop us,” said the former deputy.

He pointed out that, following the elections, a “new stage” is underway, which consists – he explained – in “enforcing popular sovereignty and the truth expressed” on July 28 to “go to a negotiation” that establishes the conditions of a “democratic transition.”

“We are going to assert popular sovereignty, we are going to move towards a transition to democracy and we are going to bring our children back home,” said Machado, who added that today “the regime is weaker than ever.”
