Venezuelans took to the streets in America and Spain on Saturday to denounce the fraud they believe occurred in the elections of July 28 when, according to the National Electoral Council (CNE), President Nicolás Maduro won with 51.95% of the votes against the majority opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, who received 43.18%.

Amid a heat wave in South Florida, Venezuelans in exile showed their support for opposition leader María Corina Machado and the man they consider to be their country’s president-elect, González Urrutia, who has already been recognized by the United States and several countries in the region as the winner.

One of the first to speak was María Teresa Morín, from the VZLA Command, who remembered the Venezuelan political prisoners, “including my colleagues, some detained, others sheltered in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, which is now protected by Brazil.”
In the United States, where there are some 750,000 Venezuelans, 60% of whom are in South Florida, according to official data, calls for support for the opposition have multiplied in several cities, including New York.

“Freedom,” “Until the end,” “Maduro is a genocidal maniac,” “Not one more death,” “Death to communism,” and “Down with the chains” were some of the slogans heard throughout the three-hour-plus meeting.

LATIN AMERICA SHOUTS “FREEDOM” FOR VENEZUELA

Hundreds of protesters gathered around the Obelisk in Buenos Aires, waving Venezuelan flags and carrying signs that read “Free Venezuela,” “Enough of the dictatorship,” “Justice and freedom,” “No one said it would be easy,” and “No surrender.”
The Argentine Vice-Chancellor, Leopoldo Sahores, who was present at the rally, told the Venezuelans that “they have the support of the Government and, more importantly, of the entire Argentine people.”

Also, shouting “freedom,” around two hundred people went to Urracá Park, located in front of the seafront of the Panamanian capital, under the slogan “Venezuela won. We triumphed on July 28 and now we are going to collect,” accompanied by a photo of González Urrutia with an electoral certificate and Machado.

“Long live Venezuela, long live Panama! Freedom, freedom, freedom!” cheered those present, carrying Venezuelan flags and banners alluding to democracy and asking the international community for help.

Around a hundred Venezuelans also gathered in front of their country’s embassy in Santo Domingo to show their support for González Urrutia.
In Honduras, a small group of Venezuelans expressed “freedom, freedom, with Edmundo until the end” and “we want to see a free Venezuela,” carrying their country’s flags in front of a statue of the liberator Simón Bolívar.

Hundreds of Venezuelans demonstrated in the Mexican capital on Saturday, in line with the protests led by the Venezuelan opposition against the results of Sunday’s elections, in which the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared the current president Nicolás Maduro the winner.

Around 400 protesters, according to figures from the organizers, gathered this afternoon at the Simón Bolívar roundabout in the center of Mexico City, where they unfurled a Venezuelan flag about 100 meters long.

Dozens of Venezuelan citizens gathered on Saturday in a park in the north-central part of Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, to protest the results of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, which declared that President Nicolás Maduro had won re-election in Sunday’s elections.

‘SOS Venezuela’ was the slogan on several banners carried by Venezuelans gathered in Bicentennial Park, where Quito’s international airport used to be.
SPAIN JOINS THE CLAMOR
A rally called by the Venezuelan opposition in Spain on Saturday in Madrid demanded that international pressure not cease until Maduro recognises that González Urrutia is the winner of the elections.
The central Puerta del Sol in the Spanish capital brought together a crowd with Venezuelan flags and numerous banners reading: “We cannot ignore so many people calling for change,” “Nobody said it would be easy,” “Freedom for all political prisoners,” “The fight is not over,” “SOS, intervene now,” “Many of us want to go home,” “No more repression, no more deaths,” “Maduro lost, we have the records,” “Edmundo president with an overwhelming majority,” and “Fraud.”
