Venezuelans in Mexico protest against Maduro

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— To demand that Edmundo González be respected as the virtual president-elect of Venezuela, hundreds of Venezuelans living in Mexico gathered at the Simón Bolívar monument as part of a worldwide mobilization.

The unfurling of a monumental Venezuelan flag and the singing of its national anthem were the call for diplomacy around the world to join in their call to recognize that Nicolás Maduro committed fraud to maintain the dictatorship over his country and to be re-elected for a third time.

“The sky of Mexico is covering us with this beautiful flag of Venezuela for the freedom of our country. Today, organized without political colors, but simply in yellow, blue and red, we demand justice because the truth was consolidated on July 28 in the minutes, in the ballot boxes and in this Venezuelan party,” said Edson Martinez, director of the Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado campaign command in Mexico. “People said in Venezuela: ‘If I have been accustomed for 25 years to stand in lines to half a living, today I stand in line for freedom with the greatest love in the world.’ The citizen organization of so much trial and error, of so many blows, of so much failure, of so many fictitious offers, we learned in these 25 years and found along the way a national leader (María Corina Machado) who told us to trust me, I will not let you down,” he said shouting: “Maduro murderer!”, “Fraud!” and the sound of cacerolazos, Venezuelans expressed their support for Edmundo González and asked for the support of world leaders to recognize their candidate as the winner of the elections of July 28.

Dressed in yellow, red and blue, like their flag, the foreigners declared that they will continue to defend the sovereignty of their country and respect its electoral decisions.

“We have completed the processes in stages. The first stage: organization and cost, it cost the organization with various political parties, with various NGOs, with civil society and we achieved it with unity in Venezuela. The Venezuelan party that took place on July 28 was consolidated in the minutes and the organization of commands, of organized society. We know that the original minutes are with the Government and we will demonstrate with equity, with justice, with honesty, with Venezuelan dignity that Edmundo González Urrutia is the president,” Martínez concluded.
