Venezuelans in Madrid gathered in support of the opposition

Dozens of Venezuelan migrants gathered in Madrid on Sunday, July 21, in support of opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González and leader María Corina Machado.

The mobilization advanced along Madrid’s Gran Via Avenue towards Callao Square in the Spanish capital and was attended by Venezuelans on foot, on bicycles and on motorcycles, according to images published by reporter Thabata Molina through her X account (formerly Twitter).

“We must vote, we must vote, we must vote to get rid of Nicolás,” was the slogan repeated by Venezuelans as they waved a giant Venezuelan flag in the centre of Madrid.

Presence of opposition leaders at the rally

The rally was attended by exiled political leader Leopoldo López, who gave a speech to the attendees.

“Next Sunday we will receive calls from our relatives in Venezuela and they will confirm that there was a full turnout, that the voting centers were full. People are calm, they are hopeful,” said López.

The opposition leader did a visualization exercise with the Venezuelan migrants who attended the rally on how the vote counting process will be on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Leopoldo López also urged the National Electoral Council to recognize the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia, if he wins the election.

Former metropolitan mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma, also participated in the anti-government rally once morest the government of Nicolás Maduro.

“With faith and contagious hope, today I shared with thousands of Venezuelans in the streets of Madrid the optimism and full confidence in the victory we will obtain on July 28 with our next president,” said Ledezma.

The political leader urged Venezuelan migrants in Madrid, who can exercise their right to vote, to participate in the elections and go to Plaza Colón in Madrid at 8:00 pm Spanish time (2:00 pm Venezuelan time).
