Venezuelans gather in several states of the country to support the opposition’s call

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday, August 3, in various states of Venezuela in support of the call made by opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia.

Some of the states that reported attendees at the rallies were Aragua, Bolívar, Carabobo, Mérida, Falcón, Táchira, Sucre and Zulia.

Residents of Santa Cruz de Mora, in Mérida, joined the call to support the results presented by opposition leaders, which show that González obtained the majority of votes in the elections on Sunday, July 28. The residents of Mérida also gathered with tricolor flags on Las Américas Avenue.

It was also learned that residents of Puerto Ordaz, in Bolívar, remain in the streets with Venezuelan flags and banners in rejection of the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) that declare Nicolás Maduro the winner.

In the city of Cumaná, Sucre state, it was reported that a group of pro-government motorcyclists threw tear gas bombs towards the opposition rally taking place on Avenida Perimetral.

Call for papers in Caracas

María Corina Machado and former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia called for a rally on Saturday, August 3 on the main avenue of Las Mercedes, Libertador municipality, starting at 10:00 am.

The attendees began arriving at 9:50 a.m. and most of them carried Venezuelan flags and signs in favor of González’s victory in the presidential elections on July 28. They also rejected the results issued by the CNE that give the victory to Nicolás Maduro without showing any minutes.

The attendees began the event by singing the national anthem Gloria al bravo puedo, and shouting the slogan “Long live Venezuela, we want freedom.”

In addition, a group of protesters kneel and pray before a giant Venezuelan flag displayed in Alfredo Sadel Square, in Las Mercedes (Caracas).

At 11:26 am, protesters play drums during the rally, prior to the arrival of the truck in which Edmundo González Urrutia is traveling, along with his family, María Corina Machado and other opposition leaders.

The Venezuelan diaspora also joined the opposition leadership’s call.

Groups of Venezuelans abroad published images of the demonstration in Australia, the United States, Brussels, Colombia, Spain, Argentina, Panama, Chile, among other nations.

Venezuelan migrants in Colombia gathered in Plaza Bolívar in Bogotá (Colombia), in support of Machado and González and in rejection of the election results issued by the CNE.

Venezuelans also demonstrated outside the White House in Washington DC (USA).
