Venezuelans denounced attacks by Immigration agents in Mexico

A group of 30 migrants who were trying to cross through point 36 of the border between Ciudad Juárez (Mexico) and El Paso (United States), received a convoy of agents from the National Migration Institute (INM) of Mexico with stones.

The migrants alleged that since Monday night they were harassed and even reported that they injured a child in the head, EFE reported.

The INM agents did not repel the attack, but they forced the migrants to retreat from the place, along the shore of the Rio Grande (Rio Grande in the US), for about 10 kilometers.

The migrants, from different countries, took the opportunity to complain about crimes committed against them and asked for the presence of humanitarian organizations.

This Tuesday morning, the migrants were waiting to cross the Rio Grande when about 30 INM agents arrived aboard six vehicles, which were met with stones and then a verbal confrontation took place.

«¡Put me in a patrol car and I’ll cut my wrists, I’m tired of you robbing us yourselves!«, a migrant challenged the agents who were escorting them along the river bank.

During the tour, one of the women in the group fainted and one of them fell to the floor due to a foot injury. Both were assisted by other migrants.

«The same Immigration agents handed us over to the cartel, they robbed us, the Immigration officers took away my cousin’s identity card and demanded 5,000 pesos (about $300) to return it to him.«claimed another of the migrants in the brawl.

A Venezuelan woman reported that immigration agents attacked them

Ge Mirazocar, a female doctor from Venezuela, said that on Monday night Immigration agents attacked them.

«It is outrageous what the Mexican authorities are doing to us. I was kidnapped by Immigration on the famous trip to La Fortuna, where they took 6,000 pesos (about $365) and my phone. The cartel also grabbed us, the state police also detain you and take money from you and threaten to deport you if you don’t. you pay”“, said .

She declared that she and her son, as well as the other children in the contingent, have been without food or water for 6 days.

«When the press came they started giving water to the children, they hit one of them in the head with a rock. One comes to rely on the Mexican authorities but here it is not possible. They throw you to Tapachula, Bello Horizonte or Tabasco“, said.

Alberto Rafael González Méndez, who also arrived from Venezuela 5 days ago, reported that during the confrontation the Immigration agents threatened to take them to Tapachula but when the press arrived they refrained from arresting them.

«Immigration is chasing us, last night they hit us with stones. They want to take us to Tapachula, they don’t give us a solution, we ask them where they are going to deport us and they tell us wherever they want because they are the authority«said the Venezuelan during the walk along the border.

The border between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso has been the epicenter of the migratory flow since 2023, when Mexico reported an increase of nearly 77% in irregular migration with more than 782,000 undocumented foreigners detected.
