Venezuelans living in several countries responded on Saturday, August 3, to the call for peaceful protest made by opposition leader María Corina Machado to reject the results announced by the CNE, which declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the July 28 presidential elections.

Through social media, for example, it was learned that in the Plaza de Bolívar in the city of Bogotá, several citizens gathered there with banners and Venezuelan flags from the early hours of the morning on Saturday, August 3.

Mariluz Colmenares, director of the Comando Con Venezuela in Colombia, was interviewed by the journalist of the newspaper Time Gabriel Ávila reiterated that the call made by the free opposition is to demonstrate peacefully without causing disturbances.

“The call is not to create unrest but to reconcile. We have to raise our voices to defend that vote that you cast. We are going to regain freedom. We have already won and we are going to collect,” said Colmenares.

Dozens of fellow citizens also gathered outside the White House in Washington DC (United States) to reject the election results. Several of them were singing the national anthem.

Venezuelans raised their voices in protest in Spain

A rally called by the Venezuelan opposition in Spain on August 3 in Madrid demanded that international pressure not cease until Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro recognizes that the winner of the elections in the country is the opposition leader Edmundo González.

The central Puerta del Sol in the capital of Spain brought together a crowd with Venezuelan flags and numerous banners reading: “We cannot ignore so many people who ask for change”, “Nobody said it would be easy”, “Freedom for all political prisoners”, “The fight is not over”, “SOS, intervene now”, among others.

A group of Venezuelans in Honduras protested on Saturday in Tegucigalpa against the re-election of their country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, while another, slightly larger group of Hondurans, expressed their support for the Venezuelan leader.

“Freedom, freedom, with Edmundo until the end” and “we want to see a free Venezuela,” chanted a dozen Venezuelans, mostly women, who carried their country’s flags and protested in front of a statue of the liberator Simón Bolívar.

The demonstrations in Caracas

Leaders Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia called for Saturday, August 3 a rally on the main avenue of Las MercedesLibertador municipality, starting at 10:00 am.

“This Saturday, August 3, we will all meet with our families, with our children, grandchildren, grandparents, and we will pay tribute to each of those heroes who asserted and defended the will of the Venezuelan people on July 28 and who are now being persecuted by the regime,” Machado said in a video posted on her X account.

The protesters began to gather at approximately 9:50 a.m., most of them carrying Venezuelan flags and signs in favor of González’s victory in the presidential elections on July 28. They also reject the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) that give the victory to Nicolás Maduro without showing any minutes.
