On August 5, the Venezuelan Trade Union Network demanded that the National Electoral Council (CNE) immediately publish the minutes issued by voting machines in the presidential elections of July 28.

The association made this request to “guarantee the transparency and legitimacy” of the elections, in which the president of the electoral body, Elvis Amoroso, declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the electoral contest.

“We categorically demand the immediate publication of the minutes of the vote count and the minutes of citizen verification by the National Electoral Council, in accordance with the provisions of the law. This step is essential to guarantee the transparency and legitimacy of the electoral process and, above all, peace,” the union network stated in a press release.

The association rejected the persecution of people who have taken to the streets to demand the detailed publication of the election results, and demanded that the Venezuelan authorities stop these actions, as well as the release of “all those who have been unjustly detained.”

The union network said it had received complaints of intimidation, workplace harassment and dismissals of workers for exercising their right to vote, without specifying how many cases it had recorded or any other details about them.

Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as the Penal Forum have been following up on the people who have been arrested in the protests that have taken place since the CNE announced the First bulletin of the presidential elections the early morning of July 29.
