Passionate regarding mathematics and chemistry, Donis arrived in Peru in 2018, along with his mother and siblings, to reunite with his father, who had already migrated to the country. He was still in high school, but immediately set his sights on UNI.

“We had many options [para migrar], among them, Colombia or Ecuador, but we decided that Peru was the best and here we are five years later,” he told the newspaper before mentioning that he was the target of discouraging comments, including one of his teachers. “I was told: you are never going to join the UNI, I’ll bet you whatever you want.”

His conquest was marked by dawn nights and long hours of study, but above all by the loss of his mother in November 2023, due to a degenerative disease. “[Mi mamá] It always motivated me a lot. “She told me that she might, that she wanted me to reach the vacancy, that I gave my all in that exam,” she said.
