Four days before the opening of the 2024-2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP), Águilas del Zulia continues to receive additions in the preseason and recently pitcher Néstor Molina joined the nest, who was signed as a free agent after leave Cardenales de Lara.
The 35-year-old right-hander assured that joining the rapacious team was a good decision.
“I didn’t think twice when I had the opportunity to come to the team. Guillermo ‘Memo’ Larreal called me when he found out I was free and I feel very grateful to the management for this opportunity. I come to contribute my experience to win,” the right-hander assured Rafael Petit, a member of the rapacious troop’s press department.
Work with Lara
Molina made nine starting appearances last season with the Cardinals and hopes to be part of the Westerners’ starting rotation. With Los Pájaros Rojos he left a 1-3 balance and an ERA of 5.24 in a match in which he did not show consistency, something he intends to do with the Marabinos with whom he is emerging as a member of the rotation.
“I have always been a starter in this league and I come to contribute to the team in that role. We know that the Maracaibo stadium is good for pitchers and I also want to take advantage of that advantage,” said Molina, who immediately made himself available to the team’s coaching staff, headed by manager Lipso Nava.
Inter-squad collision
During the twelfth day of preparation, held on Sunday, the Zulia team played the fourth intersquad game at the stadium of the law faculty of the University of Zulia (LUZ).
Ismael Guillón and Rafael Cova were the starters, completing one inning each, as were relievers Elvis Escobar, Francisco Carrillo, Eduardo Jiménez, Alvin Herrera, Manuel Medina, Jefferson Medina, Luis Moncada and Keiderver Andrade.
With the tree Ángel Reyes and Nerwilliam Cedeño they hit a double in two at-bats, while Jesús Chirinos, Gabriel Rodríguez, Alexander Palma and Dennis Ortega had hits in the preparation clash.
