The Dodgers had reached an agreement to acquire Venezuelan Eduardo Rodríguez in a trade with the Tigers, but the left-hander invoked the clause that allows him to veto trades to 10 teams to block the deal, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported.
According to a source quoted by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Rodríguez vetoed the move because he preferred to stay close to his family on the east coast of the United States.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported following the 6pm trade window passed. ET, that the Tigers did not trade Rodríguez to any club.
“There were some contractual hurdles that affected their market,” said Scott Harris, the Tigers’ general manager. “There were a couple of terms in his contract that disqualified a lot of markets from going following him. So we were working with the market that we had with Eduardo.
“We communicated with Eduardo in person, by text messages and by phone. In the end, we made a deal for Eduardo that he wasn’t comfortable with, and in the end he decided to stay in Detroit.”
