Venezuelan Paralympians Aspire to Los Angeles 2028: A Story of Resilience and Ambition

The Venezuelan Paralympic delegation, which returned to its country after participating in Paris 2024, said it was committed to preparing for the next Games, which will be held in the American city of Los Angeles in 2028.

“(We feel) grateful for all the support provided during this cycle. We are committed to Los Angeles 2028,” said Naibys Morillo, representing the delegation, who won gold in Paris, during a meeting with authorities of the South American nation, broadcast by state channel VTV.

The parathlete, who achieved the Paralympic record in the women’s javelin throw class F46 – with a mark of 43.77 meters – dedicated the achievements of the delegation in these Olympics to “all Venezuelans” who have supported them.

According to the Ministry of Sport, of the 79 countries that won medals in the past games, Venezuela ranked 34th, as well as “number 7 in the American continent” and number 3 in South America.

The delegation was received on Tuesday at the Miraflores Palace – headquarters of the Executive – in Caracas, where the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, congratulated the Paralympic athletes, including the gold medalists, Clara Fuentes (weightlifting), Enderson Santos (para-athletics) and Morillo; silver medalists, Alejandra Pérez and Lisbeli Vera, both also in para-athletics; and the bronze winner, Marcos Blanco (para-judo).

“With the arrival of our champions, who are full of victory and experience (…), the Paris 2024 Olympic cycle is completed and closed, and today, at this time, the new Olympic cycle begins on the road to Los Angeles 2028,” said the president.

In this regard, he called for increased scientific training, support for coaches and the recovery of “all sports facilities.”

He also announced that the National Games will be held from November 8 to 24 and the Paranational Games from December 1 to 8, in the states of Anzoátegui, Monagas and Sucre, in the east of the Caribbean country.
