Judoka Anriquelis Barrios was placed in pool C of the Olympic judo competition in the -63 kilograms (kg).

According to Aloys Marín, a journalist for the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), Barrios, ranked 29th in the draw, will open the July 30 round of the Champ de Mar Arena against Algerian Amina Belkadi, ninth on the list. Belkadi entered Paris 2024 in 20th place in the world rankings for her category.

In just one previous meeting, Barrios defeated Belkadi at the Almada Grand Slam on January 28, 2023. The Creole dominated that fight by ippon with 53 seconds left in the match. She is the only representative of Algeria who has competed against Barrios.

Possibility

If she wins the match against the African, Barrios will face the winner between the Slovenian Andreja Leski (7th in the world ranking) and the Georgian Eter Askilashvili (49).

Also in Pool C is Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard, the Canadian who beat Barrios for bronze in Tokyo 2020, after the fight went to a golden score (7 minutes and one second).
