Venezuelan Foreign Ministry rejects new round of US sanctions against Nicaragua

The administration of Nicolás Maduro on Thursday rejected the imposition of a new round of sanctions by the United States once morest the government of Nicaragua, which includes two mining companies.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the nation rejects “the new aggressions perpetrated by the United States Government once morest the people and Government of Nicaragua, by imposing (…) unilateral coercive measures once morest two mining companies operating in Nicaraguan territory.”

He also condemned the sanctions imposed on the Russian Interior Ministry’s Training Center operating in the city of Managua.

He said that the US and its “Western allies” are seeking, by “every possible means,” to break the “iron anti-imperialist and patriotic will of the Nicaraguan government, which defends the sacred right of its people to advance in peace and stability in the noble construction of a better, more just and humanitarian present.”

In response to this, he called on the international community to condemn these “retrograde and interventionist” actions that, in his opinion, seek to undermine the “inalienable and sacred right to free economic activity and self-determination of peoples.”
