Venezuelan delegation to Paris 2024 flagged off

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, led this Tuesday the delegation of Venezuelan athletes who will represent the country in the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024.

The activity took place in the Simón Bolívar Hall of the Miraflores Palace, where the head of State presented the national tricolor to the triple jump champion, Yulimar Rojas and the award-winning weightlifter Julio Mayora, who will carry the flag at the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games.

The national leader later highlighted that the youth and the golden generation “carry this flag as our athlete Julio César León Aranguren did in 1948, as he has carried it with dignity in every Olympics.”

He said that the Venezuelan delegation has a great commitment, because it represents the most sublime and beautiful thing that our country has.

“They are the hope of an entire time, of an entire era (…) I solemnly and officially give them the most beautiful thing I can give them, which is the flag of Venezuela,” he said.

Golden recognition

During the flag-raising ceremony, President Maduro presented the Francisco de Miranda Order, First Class Generalissimo Degree, to Julio César León Aranguren, the first athlete to participate in the 1948 London Olympic Games in the cycling specialty.
