Venezuelan captured for attack on hospital in Guayaquil

The Ecuadorian police found three 9-millimeter firearms in a flat near the scene.

Two subjects, including a citizen of Venezuelan nationality, have been arrested this Wednesday in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil following the attack in a hospital once morest a patient they were guarding and who was injured last week when unknown persons fired at the vehicle in which he mobilized.

According to the first versions, armed individuals entered the hospital emergency area at dawn and presumably tried to reach the room of the man who suffered the attack last Friday.

This person had “unusual custody inside the hospital, who, upon hearing the shots of a firearm, activated and fired shots at an individual who was going up,” presumably to attempt the life of the patient, reported Fábari Montalvo, deputy commander of Zone 8 of the Police.

The police arrested the two individuals who were acting as security for the patient and also found three 9-millimeter firearms in a flat near the scene.

Montalvo commented that there was no type of authorization for civil custody with firearms inside the hospital, and that the Police did not have a court order to guard the patient who was recovering from the injuries suffered in the attack last Friday.

The patient has already been discharged from the hospital and was taken to his home by his relatives, Montalvo said, adding that following the attack the police found an incinerated vehicle, inside which there were “munitions with the same characteristics as those found in The place of the facts”.

“That vehicle was used by the criminals to go to the hospital and leave the hospital in a headlong race,” he said, noting that, according to preliminary versions, between three and four people participated in the attack “of which one was killed.”

The violent event occurred at dawn and the shooting extended to the outside of the hospital, so the traces of the shooting were evident on the hospital façade and in a nearby building, according to press reports.

This is the second violent case registered in a health home, following on November 27, some 7 people with rifles entered a hospital in the coastal city of Chone, in the province of Manabí, with the apparent intention of murdering a 16-year-old boy, supposedly a member of a criminal group, who had been injured in a shooting the day before.
