Venezuelan airlines will continue to operate in the Dominican Republic

Marte Piantini, President of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic, reported that the revocation of air operations will be void of passengers and cargo, as well as regular and non-scheduled flights, involving Venezuelan airlines in the Dominican Republic.

The action had been announced on May 21 through a statement explaining that the work of Venezuelan airlines would be re-evaluated in its territory from May 27.

However, Piantini confirmed that he had a conversation with the Minister of Transport of Venezuela, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, in which They agreed to review route assignments and their frequencies.

“I just spoke by phone with the Minister of Transport of Venezuela Ramón Velásquez, we agreed to create a working table and review our bilateral agreement, especially the assignment of routes and frequencies, and modernize it for the benefit of our airlines«, wrote in X.

Likewise, the Dominican official asserted that for the moment the operations will continue normally, and that from now on both nations They will seek to update bilateral agreements and conventions aircraft.

The Dominican Republic is listed as one of the main direct and connecting destinations with Venezuela, where Air traffic increased dramatically last year.

The most recent Passenger Traffic Report for Latin America and the Caribbean reflected that there was an increase in the volume of international flights in the country in 2023. It is estimated that Growth was 51% compared to 2022according to Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association.
