Hydrometeorological engineer Valdemar Andrade warned on Tuesday, September 3, that intense rains could occur in Venezuela during the ninth month of the year.
Andrade explained in an interview with Unión Radio that in August rainfall exceeded twice the estimated amount, while the rains of the first three days of September already reached the normal limits (30 centimeters).
According to the information, the rainfall in the last 48 hours was caused by tropical wave 34, which is expected to reach the states of Falcón and Zulia on Wednesday, September 4.
“We have had five consecutive days of rain in Caracas, with the most recent ones being higher. It is an indicator of risk or vulnerability,” Andrade emphasized.
According to the engineer, the Metropolitan Area of Caracas requires an adequate drainage system, since the current ones are more than 50 years old.

Inameh said the rains were of varying intensity, with gusts of wind and occasional electrical discharges.

Tropical waves in Venezuela
Inameh has forecast that from September 1, rains with lightning and gusts of wind will intensify in the coastal region of the country due to the arrival of two tropical waves.
The agency explained through social media that tropical wave 34 arrived through Essequibo and affected several states in the east of the country; while number 35 is still in the Atlantic and may reach Venezuelan territory during the week of September 2.
“Partly cloudy skies are expected in most of the country, with convective cells generating precipitation, mainly in the north of our Essequibo Guayana, Bolívar, Amazonas, Delta Amacuro, Sucre, Monagas, Anzoátegui, Guárico, Apure, Barinas, Falcón, Andes and Zulia, without ruling out rain or showers of short duration in Miranda, Aragua, Capital District, Carabobo and Yaracuy,” the agency forecast.
