Venezuela once once more leads the ranking from The Economist over that of the most authoritarian Latin American countries.
The publication of its 2021 Democracy Index in the world revealed that in Latin America the only authoritarian regimes there are -according to several factors- are those that prevail in Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. It rates the state of democracy in 167 countries.
Of these, Venezuela ranks 151st, even below the government of Daniel Ortega (140) and Miguel Díaz-Canel (142) with a rating of 2.11 out of a maximum of 10 points. In addition, in the regional ranking, our country was ranked number 24 -the last place-.
In the year 2020, Venezuela obtained a score of 2.76. This reflects that in 2021 it decreased to 0.65.
Also, compared to other authoritarian regimes in the world, according to The EconomistVenezuela is above nations like Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Syria, North Korea, and Myanmar (former Burma).
In addition, in the period from 2006 to 2015 Venezuela remained in what is a line of «hybrid regimens«, with scores around five out of 10. However, since 2016, this record began to drop to the current point, coinciding with the entrenchment in power of President Nicolás Maduro. This translates into the fact that, from 2006 to 2021, the country has dropped almost 50 places in the world ranking of the state of global democracy, according to The Economist.
