The Venezuelan futsal team got off to a good start in the South American Under 17 Paraguay 2024, beating Chile 2-1 on Sunday, August 18.

The Venezuelan team, led by José Peña, had to come from behind to take the three points in their first match of the competition, played at the Oscar Harrison Arena.

It should be noted that the youth tournament started last Saturday, the 17th, but La Vinotinto had that free date and its debut was on the second day. With the victory against the Australes, it is placed second in Group B, behind Argentina (six points) and ahead of Peru, Uruguay (both with one point) and Chile, which has two losses.

Reassembled

The Venezuelan team had a hesitant first few minutes of the match, with Chile attacking insistently. In fact, the goal for the southerners came in the 11th minute, through Matías Pinto.

However, the national team responded quickly and equalized at 15′ with a goal from Miguel Uribe.

In the second half, the two teams shared the offensive lead in sections, although they failed to define from side to side. However, at 17′ Franklin Mayora showed his quality, as he lowered a long pass and immediately defined with a subtle touch to the ball for the 2-1.

Next challenge

La Vinotinto’s next challenge in the South American Under 17 Futsal Championship will be this Monday 19th against the Peruvian team, which, like Venezuela, has only played one match.
