Venezuela’s delegation of athletes has said goodbye to the Paris Games without medals, but “with their heads held high” and their eyes set on the 2028 Games, which will be held in Los Angeles, the Olympic Committee (COV) of the Caribbean country said.

In a video, the institution highlighted its pride in the 33 Venezuelan athletes who competed in 11 sports, as well as the seven Olympic diplomas they obtained in disciplines such as weightlifting, athletics, tae kwon do and Greco-Roman wrestling.

“They fought hard on every sporting stage and, even though they were unable to get on the podium, we are proud of each of their performances because we experienced first-hand everything they did to get there,” says the video, referring to the competitors.

Authorities

The COV authorities stress that they are not “satisfied with what has happened” and will therefore carry out “a thorough analysis of everything that has happened, but will never reproach the athletes for anything.”

“We extend our hand to them, they gave everything to make Venezuela as high as possible,” the video adds.

In the previous Olympics, held in Tokyo, Venezuela accumulated four medals, three silver and one gold, won by Yulimar Rojas, the world triple jump champion who was unable to compete in Paris, despite having qualified, due to an injury that forced her to undergo surgery and rest.
