Venezuela reinforces child protection with new prosecutor’s office specialized in abuse

The attorney general Towing William Saab This Tuesday, a new prosecutor’s office specialized in crimes of sexual abuse against children and adolescents was inaugurated. This prosecutor’s office is linked to the General Directorate for the Protection of Family and Women, and is established in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) in Venezuela.

Saab, accompanied by Abubacar Sultan, Unicef ​​representative in Venezuela, explained that the new specialized prosecutor’s office is part of a collaboration plan with the organization, which has defined objectives for 2023-2024.

This plan includes the donation of office supplies, computer equipment, information material, as well as the training and education of officials who are part of the justice system in the country.

In addition, he explained that the new prosecutor’s office will be made up of a provisional prosecutor, five interim assistant prosecutors, an assistant lawyer, a technical social worker and seven administrative officials.

The Unicef ​​representative, for his part, emphasized that sexual abuse is a crime and one of the most serious forms of violence against children and adolescents. Furthermore, he highlighted that the majority of cases of abuse are not detected or reported.
